What Is the Difference Between Discipline and Punishment?
Discipline is good. It is a guide with limitations and expectations while teaching what is appropriate. It is okay. There is nothing wrong with disciplining your child. Having boundaries is a good thing.
Discipline is objective. It is a teaching tool for everyone involved. Furthermore, it gives direction on how to respect others, maintain self-control, and make good choices.
Punishment is bad. It’s a bridge between a parent and child. The more you punish a child, the less they share. It is usually done out of anger, which validates fear in children. And, it’s usually a disaster.
Punishment weakens your message and creates a dysfunctional pattern of communication.
